Thanks to Mani Flatten and Amy Sinclair for setting up the blog part of my site while I've been out on the road. You guys are the greatest.
Just returned from doing a very successful show in Nashville, TN. To any of you out there who participated...THANKS.
I am completely new to this blog thing (which dates me no doubt). So, I'll just stumble forward and know you will all catch me if I goof :-)
While in Nashville Kelly (my sweetheart and heroine) and I stayed with our dear friends, Robin and Tom Kimmel. I would liked to have done some co-writing with Tom but too exhausted from doing the American Artisan Art Fair in Centennial Park. Thanks to Nancy Saturn for producing one of the best run shows I do. And to all her staff.
Big Red (the work horse Yukon XL) pulled the trailer with no complaints, except for the $100 / tankful of gas. It is going to be necessary to go up on jewelry prices and concert fees with the price of gas, the price of gold & silver, and the price of bread and milk. Sorry about that.
We'll be at the house and shop for 2 weeks re-grouping after the run of four consecutive week-ends (3 at the Kerrville Folk Festival and 1 in Nashville). Then reload and go to the western mountains. (refer to the schedule on my website) This has been the plan for the past few years for two reasons : 1) there are high-end art shows ; 2) getting out of the Texas heat :-)
I should back up and reflect on this year's Kerrville Folk Festival, but I guess I'll do that next year (which will be here in the blink of an eye).
I am not quite sure how personal to get in a blog (which I am using like a newsletter)...but I do want to put in a few things on the higher plane.
I suggest reading "The New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. Being a man of extreme ego I have needed work in that area for most of my life...Tolle has written down some of the most accessible tools and insights on that part of the awakening process that I have encountered so far in the journey.
I also feel like I need to back up and talk about the new CD that is in process. After I returned April 7th from my spring tour in Europe (which is a whole 'nother story) Peter Rowan and I have aligned ourselves again around a new collection of songs. With some tweeking and co-writing we have taken 9 songs, gathered great players together and booked "The Zone" outside of Dripping Springs, TX (close to Austin).
With 4 days, a great engineer, advanced equipment and three iso booths we managed to record hot tracks which we are going to fine tune the next time Peter and I can work our schedules together (this is the hardest part of our production logistics)...maybe in the early fall. It is the recording format I use the most...performing live with the main players in each of the arrangements (my voice was in good shape from having just finished working hard in Europe)...then tweeking the tracks as needed or adding instruments or voices (sparingly) when needed. My buddy Dylan does the same...so I'm in good company :-)
I hope this CD won't take Peter and I as long to get on the shelves as the last one. "Buffalo Zen" took us about 2 years from start to finish. I hope less than one year this time :-) I'll keep you posted on the progress.
I keep exploring the highest nature of love.
And I send what I have out to all of you.
Thanks for everything.
